JOEY KING IS MY FAVORITE YOUNG ACTRESS

Oh Joey King -- You have stolen my heart! I got a chance to work with Joey King doing her hair and makeup for 4 days doing press and appearances to promote her movie Ramona and Beezus where she plays the title role opposite Selena Gomez. During my time with Joey, I also got to know and fall in love with her beautiful family: Mom - Jamie, Dad - Terry, Sister - Kelli and Sister - Haley. During all of this, I also got to spend time with two of my favorite girls Alexandra Heller and Laura Ackermann of Much & House PR (Joey's publicists)! After our last day together, I kind of got a little choked up because I was going to miss them all so much but we've all promised to hang out together! Until then, I have these amazing videos below from our time together! One is from On-Air with Ryan Seacrest on 102.7 KIIS FM (definitely watch 5:05 for a laugh)... Another is from a satellite interview... The next one is from an interview with Reelz Channel... Next is from her appearance on KTLA's Morning News with Sam Rubin... and the last two are from her appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. After watching this, you'll see why Joey is my favorite little girl! I expect to see amazing things come from this girl and I hope I'm there every step of the way!!! XOXO

HEIDI MONTAG: YOU FASCINATE ME!

Everyone is talking about the final season of The Hills premiering Tuesday, April 27, 10/9c on MTV. Guess what? I'm really excited about it too... But I only got excited yesterday around 4PM! Let me explain:

About 6 years ago, I met Lauren Conrad at an event at the Hard Rock Live in Orlando, Florida and ended up spending the evening chatting for a bit. She told me about her new show and so I thought I would support it. I remember watching the first two episodes of the very first season of The Hills and I just couldn't get obsessed with it (even though I really wanted to). Let's cut to 6 years later...

Yesterday, I spent some time at home organizing my life and recovering from a cold. I decided to have my TV play in the background while I did some paperwork. I heard an awesome song and realized that The Hills was on. (By the way, The Hills has the best music! I discovered so many new bands yesterday!) Anyway, I looked to see what band it was and it was like I fell under a spell. I couldn't take my eyes off the television. I had to wait during a commercial break to pee, even. What the heck? I totally got pulled in! Lauren hates Spencer who Heidi is marrying and they got introduced by Kristin who's back in town and started seeing Justin who's ex is Audrina who ended up spending the night with Brody who is Kristin's ex but has a girlfriend named Jayde that now hates Kristin too because she started seeing Brody again... What did I get myself into?!?

I realized that my lack of a social life is one small reason that I am really into the drama on the show. The main reason? -- The beautiful people on it. I mean... what do they feed these people?!?! One person in particular that I'm fascinated with is Heidi Montag!

As a makeup artist/hairstylist, I study a lot of pop culture and look out for who's relevant in entertainment. This means that I go through tons of magazines on a regular basis. I remember seeing a picture on a gossip rag, of a blonde girl that looked like a Barbie with all this plastic surgery. It turned out to be Heidi Montag. I was in shock. I was confused. I didn't understand it. I thought it was stupid. I paid no attention to it. Shortly after, I had no choice but to pay attention to it because it was all over the place! It was the talk of the town. People would post pictures on the internet and in magazines of Heidi that weren't the most flattering and of course had rude comments to go with it. Even I had to make a comment or two about the size of her breasts and was even more in shock that she wanted bigger ones!

Well, after yesterday's The Hills marathon (that I was pissed I couldn't finish because I had a dinner commitment -- no offense to my dinner companion), I became really intrigued with Heidi. Whether or not this show is scripted... the character she is (or plays) is one that is actually sweet. Do I dare say that I feel like her personality seems to be really down-to-earth?!?!

Let's talk about how she looks. Why did I say, "OMG... Why did she do that to herself... She's so young, she doesn't need it" and yet every chance I get, I'm looking in the mirror thinking to myself, "I need a little lift here, and this wrinkle out, and this nose smaller and this fat sucked out..."? My first instinct was to immediately say she doesn't look good but I think it's because I always thought she was a really pretty girl and didn't need anything done. When I saw her on the show I said to myself, "She looks really good!" I finally realized that she already had some work done before the super publicized bunch of surgeries. This made me think that she was going overboard. Then I paused for a second and said to myself, "It's her body and her perogative." Last night, I looked at some pics of Heidi on the MTV site and she looks great.

Let me finish by saying this: I think that this fascination goes a lot deeper than Heidi's looks or the character she is on The Hills. It's about having the balls to not care about what people think or say. She does what she wants to accomplish her goals and make herself happy. To some, she's ridiculous... To some she doesn't look good... But I'm realizing in my own journey in life that people aren't always going to support my decisions and some may even hate on me without knowing who I am. I also realize that I'm very much the judgemental one at times and do exactly the same thing that I don't want people to do to me. With all that said I think it's okay to applaude someone like Heidi and her attitude about life. I wish I were a more like that -- well...that and maybe being a perfect blonde chick. Haha.

XOXO

MODERN FAMILY'S SARAH HYLAND AND HER MODERN HAIRDO

The first time I got to work with Sarah Hyland from Modern Family was for the 2010 SAG Awards. Her publicists Laura Ackermann and Alexandra Heller at Much & House Public Relations told me that Modern Family's cast was nominated for Best Comedy Ensemble and gave me a heads up about her full head of hair. It made me excited to get my hands on the brunette babe but I also felt a little pressure because there was a really good chance she would be up on stage accepting this award! Nonetheless, I was really happy to work with Sarah and couldn't wait to see what we would come up with.

When I met Sarah, I immediately LOVED her! She is so funny and I immediately felt comfortable talking to her about everything. She's a feisty chick with some of the most gorgeous features I've ever seen! I wasn't responsible for the idea of the hairstyle we ended up with. Sarah showed me a pic of an old updo she wore with a braid and I just put my own twist on it. We finished it off with a purple smokey eye to go with her amethyst colored dress and she was on her way.

During that week, I saw a few reviews on her look -- all positive -- and I was proud. Since then, I've gotten a chance to work with Sarah a few more times for a couple of movie premieres and a television interview. I even got to work on her for a Paper Magazine shoot. I can't wait for those pics to come.

Today, I received an email from Alexandra with a scan from this week's Life & Style magazine featuring Sarah Hyland's SAG Awards look in the Beauty News section titled "9 New Ways to Wear Braids"! Check out a red carpet pic and interview from this year's SAG Awards and the tearsheet from Life & Style below! It's always exciting for me to see something I created being featured! It continues to encourage me that I'm doing things right and it makes me grateful for the opportunities I get.

Enjoy! XOXO

JENNIFER STONE, MITCHEL MUSSO AND THEIR MOMS IN FAMILY CIRCLE MAGAZINE MAY 2010

Family Circle Magazine's May 2010 issue honors Mother's Day by featuring teen stars and their moms. Two of the teens featured are my clients Jennifer Stone (Disney's Wizards of Waverly Place and Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars) and Mitchel Musso (Hannah Montana and Pair of Kings). Photographer Jonathan Skow used Malibu as his backdrop to create an ethereal feel in the photographs.

I got to do hair for the shoot and it was a challenge. The ocean air and the rainy weather posed a bit of a problem. Jennifer has naturally straight hair and Christy, her mom, has naturally wavy hair. Mitchel's hair is really soft and naturally falls into a shaggy style and his mom Kathy wears her hair straight all the time. I wanted to create different looks for each person.

With Jennifer, Mitchel and Kathy, I wanted to give them all a bit of texture in their hair -- a little separation, wave and something that looked wind blown. With Christy, I wanted to polish her hair and give it body. One product that didn't let me down: L'Oréal Elnette Strong Hold Hairspray. It's anti-humidity formula really kept the styles in place and kept the frizz away.

The pics below are what we ended up with! Quite frankly, these three stunning women and this stud are so great just the way they are. But a little touch of Allanface hopefully added some joy to their day!

XOXO

IT'S "THE HARD 'NOX LIFE" FOR US

On Friday, April 16, 2010 my Equinox Fitness Video Dance Jam class made history by being the winners of the first ever Gym Crew Challange.

Real Dance Productions presented the Gym Crew Challange at Boulevard 3 night club in Hollywood to benefit The Passion For Dance Project, a cultural non-profit that grants financial scholarships to young dancers in need.

The six teams that represented this year were:

ALLAN AVENDANO - “THE HARD ‘NOX LIFE” (Equinox Fitness)
BENJAMIN ALLEN - “B-FUNK ALL-STARS” (Gold's Gym)
FOREST PHILBRICK - “OB1T.O.B’s” (Gold's Gym)
IRENE RUBINSKY - “FLAMES OF FIRE” (Gold's Gym)
LAMESHA VINE - “HOLLYWOOD/VINE” (Gold's Gym)
O’DELL HOWARD - “GET UP N GROOVERS” (Sports Club LA)

The West Hollywood Equinox Fitness Video Dance Jam Team (aka The Hard 'Nox Life Crew) consisted of:

Allan Avendaño - Choreographer

Adam Cook - Choreographer

Michelle Wong

Emily Shanklin

Yu Tsai

Alana Mitnick

Anthony De La Cruz

Bryn Gauer

Cheri Cervantes

Jill Small

Daniel Martinez

Kirsten Koppe

Randi Wood

Philip Hratko

We had some tough competition but after making it to the finals and then having team member Emily Shanklin compete in a freestyle head-to-head challenge... Judges Tabitha & Napoleon, Kimberly Caldwell and Tony Selznick gave the crowd the final say. The applause meter couldn't lie and determined that The Hard 'Nox Life Crew deserved 1st place and the $500 cash prize.

As a team, we decided to donate our cash prize back to The Passion For Dance Project so that others have the opportunity to pursue what we all love to do!

Below are some candid pics of the crew and our winning routine!

ENJOY!

AN ODE TO A FRIEND

To my dear friend -

I'm well aware of my character flaws -- I'm stuffy. I am ridiculously uptight. I'm a bitch. I'm moody. I'm a perfectionist. I have a severe A-Type personality. I'm an emotional mess. I always get angry and I complain everyday. It's because of these things that make me think that you're clueless about how I feel about you, my friend.

You have no idea because I treat you not-so-nice sometimes. I call you "asshole" every 5 minutes. I think it's funny that I do that. You probably don't think so. Oops. But it's all out of a brotherly love.

The reality of the situation is that these days, I can't picture my life without you. You're a great friend -- A really amazing friend. You've done countless things for me. It makes me feel weird. I'm not used to it. I'm a "princess" but I'm independent, so when you do stuff for me, I get kind of confused. Usually I have to pay for help. Lame.

You have an amazing ability to make me smile in situations -- especially because of your laugh. Your congested way of laughing is one of the coolest things to hear. It sounds like you have a cold but it's really endearing.

You're so accessible to me. It's freakin' great. I call you... and you actually pick up... like 99% of the time. The other times... well... You and I both know what you're dooooing... Ha! When I text you...you text me back... unless you forget your phone password or you're eating a ridiculous amount of mechanically separated chicken formed into little battered patties dipped in barbeque sauce. ;) Also, if I have a question, you have an answer. If not, you'll find one. You're there for me -- like all the time! And I don't have the words to say about how that makes me feel because it's foreign to me.

You're a beautiful person -- inside and out. Let's get the outside part of of the way: It's kind of fun for me to have such a hot friend. Well, probably more fun for you than for me. Yeah... that's all I have to say about that. Think EGO by Beyoncé. Kidding. Inside, you have a conscience and your good hearted nature is the most beautiful part about you. But you're still a ghetto-ass fool so it's a great balance.

You're so talented -- TALENTED TALENTED TALENTED! And I feel like we're in a constant race to see who buys their first mansion so that we can move the other one in. I still think I'll win that one... haha! I love to see you so happy doing what you love and it's part of the reason why you keep me inspired and why I know you're going to be a huge success.

There's so much more I can talk about, but what it boils down to is: I believe in you. I love you. I'd do anything for you.

Thank you for my being my friend.

-A.A.

KIMBERLY CALDWELL IN LAS VEGAS

Kimberly Caldwell's album Without Regret will be released this July, but the lucky few thousand at Haze Nightclub (Aria Resort & Casino) on April 10th were able to experience a special performance with a few selections from the blonde bombshell's debut album. I was one of the lucky few to watch her performance VIP Style! I also helped her with her hair & makeup for the show and walked her to the red carpet. I must say... I think she looks pretty damn hot. This is nothing out of the ordinary for Kim of course... but I still am so proud to be a part of her team/journey and feel really lucky to get to work on someone who's beautiful inside and out! Go Kim!!!

Below are some really cool pics from the evening! There were two looks: one was for her meet and greet with fans and the second was for her performance.

Beauty notes:
Smashbox High Definition Concealer (mixed medium and medium dark)

THE STUDY OF JERRETH LUDWIG

I was really fortunate to participate in an editorial shoot with the amazing Yu Tsai again, for Contributor Magazine titled "A study of Jerreth in Studio 2". I got to groom Jerreth Ludwig with DNA Models, a few months back for these shots and was so glad I got a chance to hang with the down-to-earth stunner! He's quite modest and soft spoken you see... so it was a bit of a surprise seeing his ridiculously developed body under the baggy, unflattering t-shirt and jacket he came in with. After spending a few hours with him and the other hottie Yu Tsai (who is so cut up himself that I can literally use his stomach to play tic tac toe) I pretty much never wanted to eat again and spend the rest of my life in the gym. Nonetheless, we had a blast and instead of getting upset about being a bit "plump" if you will... I'll use it as inspiration to better my physique. The pics are below for you to get inspired... and maybe drool over a bit. Enjoy! XOXO
